Day Sleepers

I had originally started taking photos of homeless people. Along the way I encountered fascinating individuals who were sleeping outside but weren’t necessarily homeless. –True, some have lost their homes, but others are travelers trying to get a nap in before continuing their journey, and of course some people have fallen asleep simply by accident. The images and their composition are using a very private but ordinary human activity done in the seemingly ordinary public sphere to construct a message about our societal beliefs and values. I believe that the relationship between place and the individual communicate a message about these values in my work. Gardens of Dreams: What kind of dreams live and die there amongst the Day Sleepers? Contain Yourself: A homeless man sleeping under rotting public infrastructure, and utilizing a bag from a shop who sells containers for consumers who have too many goods.

I believe these images say more about us than about the Day Sleepers themselves.
